Strip the audio track from a video and keep a silent clip. The picture is copied without re-encoding, so nothing is lost and the node finishes almost at once.
The Remove Audio node removes the audio track from a video and outputs a silent clip. The picture is copied as it is, without re-encoding, so the node loses no quality and finishes almost instantly. It is the video half of splitting a clip, and Extract Audio is the audio half. The node has no settings.
When to use it
- Mute a video before you add sound effects or a different soundtrack.
- Make a clean, silent background clip for compositing.
- Drop an unwanted audio track without any loss of picture quality.
Quick start
Add the node
Press Tab on the canvas and choose Video › Sound for Video › Remove Audio.
Connect the video
Wire the clip into the Video input.
Run it
Click Run on the node. The silent clip appears on the node.

Remove Audio or another node?
Several nodes change the sound of a clip. Pick by what you want to end up with:

Tips
- Replace a soundtrack. Wire the silent clip and your new sound into Merge Video & Audio. Merge Video & Audio can also mute the original sound itself, so removing it first is optional.
- Keep the sound instead. To keep the audio and drop the picture, use Extract Audio.
- Expect identical quality. The picture is not re-encoded, so the output has the same quality and codec as the input.
- Silent input stays silent. A video without sound comes back unchanged.
