Fade a video in at its start and out at its end, from and to black or white, with separate durations from 0.1 to 3 seconds. The sound fades along with it.
The Fade In/Out node adds a fade at the start and at the end of a video. The picture fades in from black or white and fades out to the same color. Each fade can be switched on or off and has its own duration, and when the video has sound, the sound fades with the picture.
When to use it
- Give any video a clean intro and outro.
- Smooth the start of a generated clip that begins abruptly.
- End a video on a dreamy or dramatic fade to white or black.
To fade between two clips, use a transition in Combine Videos instead.
Quick start
Add the node
Press Tab on the canvas and choose Video › Cut & Assemble › Fade In/Out.
Connect the video
Wire the finished video into the Video input.
Choose the fades
Open the settings panel. Choose a Fade Color, switch Fade In and Fade Out on or off, and set the duration of each fade.
Run it
Click Run on the node. The faded video appears on the node.

Settings

Tips
- Start with half a second. A 0.5-second fade suits most content. Use 1 to 2 seconds for cinematic or dramatic pieces.
- Choose the color for the mood. Black fades are the standard for most video. White fades suit bright, upbeat content.
- Fade last. Apply the fades after every trim and join, so that no later node cuts them off.
- Mix different lengths. A short fade-in and a longer fade-out give an asymmetric rhythm.
