# Duration

> The Duration node holds a target length in seconds. It cannot be wired into video or script nodes, so set the length on each node.

The **Duration** node holds a target length in seconds, from 1 to 600, with 60 as the default. It never runs a model and costs nothing.

**It does not change a run:** 
The canvas refuses a wire from Duration to [Generate Video](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/video/generate-video) or [Generate Script](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/video/generate-script), so the length it holds never reaches a run. Set the length on each node instead.

## Tips
- **Plan scenes with the length.** A 60-second script with 10 scenes gives about 6 seconds per scene, which suits most video models.
- **Check the model's lengths.** Every [video model page](https://nodaro.ai/docs/models/video) lists the lengths the model can make.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the Duration node set the length of my clips?

No. It cannot be connected to Generate Video or Generate Script, so its length does not reach a run. Set Duration (seconds) in each video node, or Target Length (seconds) in Generate Script.

### Why is a video not exactly the length I set?

Many video models offer fixed lengths, such as 4, 6 or 8 seconds. The length list in a video node shows only what its model supports.

### How long should a scripted video be?

About 15 seconds for a social reel, 30 to 60 seconds for a short-form video and 60 to 180 seconds for an explainer. Set it as Target Length in Generate Script.

### Does the Duration node cost credits?

No. It only holds a value and never runs a model.
