# Upscale Image

> Enlarge and sharpen an image without a prompt. Use Recraft Upscale for quick, low-cost results or Topaz Upscale at 1x, 2x or 4x for final files.

The **Upscale Image** node makes an image larger and sharper without changing what it shows. It has no prompt: you connect an image, choose **Recraft Upscale** or **Topaz Upscale**, and the node returns the enhanced picture. Use it as the last step before you publish or print an image.

## When to use it
- A generated image looks soft at full size, and you need a sharper final file.
- You need a large file for print or for a big screen.
- You took a frame from a video with [Extract Frame](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/extract-frame) and need a larger still.
- You want the highest resolution possible. Generate at the top resolution of your image model, then upscale with Topaz at `4x`.

## Quick start
### Add the node

Press Tab on the canvas and choose **Image › Edit & Retouch › Upscale Image**.

### Connect the image

Drag from an image node, such as [Generate Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/generate-image) or [Upload Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/upload-image), to the **Image** input.

### Choose the upscaler

Open the settings panel and choose a **Provider**. **Recraft Upscale** is the default and has no options. With **Topaz Upscale**, also choose an **Upscale Factor**.

### Run it

Click **Run** on the node. The upscaled image appears on the node and can feed any other node.

Workflow: An image generated at 4K is upscaled 4x with Topaz and saved as the final file.

## Tips
- **Upscale last.** Remove the background, edit and composite first, then upscale the final image.
- **Use Recraft for quick passes and Topaz for final files.** Recraft Upscale is enough for quick enhancement when the exact size does not matter. Topaz Upscale at `2x` or `4x` gives production-quality output.
- **Other formats are converted for you.** HEIC, HEIF and AVIF photos are converted before the run. This matters most for images that arrive by link through the API.
- **Use the video node for clips.** To upscale a video, use [Upscale Video](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/video/upscale-video).

### How many credits does Upscale Image cost?

Recraft Upscale costs 2 credits per image. Topaz Upscale costs 25 credits at 1x or 2x, and 50 credits at 4x.

### What does the 1x factor do?

With Topaz Upscale, 1x keeps the size of the image and only enhances it. Choose 2x or 4x to make the image larger as well.

### Do I need to write a prompt?

No. Upscale Image has no prompt. It enlarges and sharpens the picture you connect without changing what it shows. To change the content, use Modify Image.

### Which upscaler should I choose?

Use Recraft Upscale for quick, low-cost enhancement when the exact size does not matter. Use Topaz Upscale at 2x or 4x for production-quality final files.

### Can I upscale HEIC or AVIF photos?

Yes. HEIC, HEIF, AVIF and other formats are converted before the run, so they work even though the upscalers take JPEG, PNG or WebP. The conversion keeps transparency and fine detail.
