# Image nodes

The **Image** tab of the node picker holds every node that brings in, creates, edits, combines or reads images. It covers uploads, text-to-image generation, editing by instruction, masks, upscaling, background removal, collages, overlays, reference boards and image analysis. Press Tab on the canvas and open the **Image** tab to see the nodes, grouped in five families.

A tab shows every node that deals with its medium, not only the nodes that produce it. That is why [Describe Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/describe-image), which returns text, and [Extract Frame](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/extract-frame), which reads a video, are in the Image tab too.

## The five families

### Add Your Own

Bring your own pictures into a workflow. [Upload Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/upload-image) takes a file or a direct link, lets you crop it before the upload, and passes it to every node you connect. Reach for it when a photo, a product shot or a logo should guide the AI or appear in the result.

### Create

Make new images from text. [Generate Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/generate-image) turns a prompt into a picture with one of Nodaro's image models. It keeps characters consistent with references and assets, and it can edit its own results with a mask. It is the starting point of most image and video workflows.

### Edit & Retouch

## Frequently asked questions

### Which node makes an image from a text prompt?

Generate Image. It turns a prompt into an image with one of Nodaro's image models, and it keeps characters consistent when you give it references.

### How do I edit an image I already have?

Use Modify Image to change it with a text instruction, Upscale Image to enlarge it, and Remove Background to cut out the subject. To change only one area, make a mask with Generate Mask or Paint Mask.

### How do I put my logo on an AI image?

Use Image Overlay. It places the real logo file, text, QR codes and shapes on an image exactly where you set them, without redrawing anything.

### How do I keep a character the same across many images?

Make a reference with Reference Board or Reference Sheet, or use a Character asset, and wire it into the references of every image and video node that shows the character.

### Why are Describe Image and Extract Frame in the Image tab?

The Image tab holds every node that deals with images, not only the nodes that make them. Describe Image reads an image and returns text, and Extract Frame turns a video frame into an image.
