# Voice Character > Describe who a designed voice is: age, gender, up to 3 languages, one of 45 accents and a timbre. Nodaro adds it to the voice description of Voice Design. You combine options such as Middle-aged, Male, English, British RP and Warm, and Nodaro adds the description to the voice description of the [Voice Design](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/audio/voice-design) node you connect it to. The picker never calls a model, so it costs no credits. - Found in: Creative Controls › Music & Voice - Output: text - API type: `voice-character` ## When to use it - Design a new voice for a character, a narrator or a brand without writing a voice description by hand. - Make a multilingual voice: pick up to 3 languages, such as English and Spanish. - Give a voice a specific accent, from General American and British RP to Scouse, Nigerian or Transatlantic. - Try variations fast: change one part, such as the timbre, and run Voice Design again. ## How to use it ### Add the picker Open the node picker on the **Audio** tab and choose **Creative Controls › Music & Voice › Voice Character**. ### Describe the speaker Click the node and choose an **Age**, a **Gender**, up to 3 **Language** choices, an **Accent** and a **Timbre**. Every part is optional. ### Connect it Drag from the picker's output to the **Audio style** input of a [Voice Design](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/audio/voice-design) node. ### Run Voice Design The description is added to the node's voice description when it runs. Voice Design returns a preview of the new voice and a reusable voice ID. Workflow: Voice Character says who speaks, Voice Delivery says how, and Voice Design turns both into a reusable voice. - Voice Character → Voice Design (audio style) - Voice Delivery → Voice Design (audio style) ## Settings | Setting | What it does | | --- | --- | | **Age** | One age, from Infant and Child to Middle-aged, Mature and Elderly. | | **Gender** | Male, Female or Androgynous. | | **Language** | Up to 3 of 33 languages, for a multilingual or code-switching voice. Language is what the voice speaks. | | **Accent** | One of 45 accents, across North America, the British Isles, Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Accent is how the voice sounds. | | **Timbre** | One quality of the voice, such as Warm, Gravelly, Breathy, Velvety, Husky or Authoritative. | | **Custom text (before)** | Your own words, added before the description, for example `slightly hoarse from a long night`. | | **Custom text (after)** | Your own words, added after the description. | | **Prompt hint** | **Full** (default) adds the longer description. **Compact** adds only the short terms. The parts are built into one phrase in a fixed order: the languages, the age and gender, then the timbre and the accent. Parts you leave empty are skipped. To see the exact words the picker will add, switch the node to the **Prompt** or **Both** display mode. The settings panel shows the same text under **Will inject into prompt**. ## Where the description goes On [Voice Design](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/audio/voice-design), the description is added to the voice description. The preview text that the voice speaks is never changed. [Text to Audio](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/audio/text-to-audio) makes sound effects, so it ignores voice pickers and shows a warning. [Voice Delivery](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/creative-controls/voice-delivery) says how they speak: the pace, the emotion and the style. - **Keep language and accent apart.** For an English voice with a French accent, pick English as the language and French as the accent. - **Design once.** Voice Design gives each new voice an ID you can reuse, so you do not have to design the same voice again. ## Frequently asked questions ### What does the Voice Character picker do?
