# Presets

> A preset saves a node's settings under a name. Use Nodaro's factory presets, save your own, find them with search and favorites, and share them as a JSON file.

A **preset** is a named snapshot of a node's settings: its prompt, model, aspect ratio, voice and every other parameter. You save a setup once and load it onto any node of the same type in one click. Nodaro ships factory presets for the most-used nodes, and you can save, organize and share your own.

Every node with settings has presets, and a new node type gets them automatically. Nodes without settings, such as a sticky note, and the asset nodes, such as Character, Location and Object, have no preset menu.

## Use a preset

The preset menu is in two places: at the top of the settings panel, below the node's name, and on the node itself, in the toolbar that appears when you point at the node. Until you choose a preset, the menu reads **PRESET**.

### Open the preset menu

Click **PRESET** on the node or in its settings panel. At the top is a **Favorites** band, when you have favorites. Then come **My Presets** and the **Factory** folders, which start collapsed.

### Find a preset

Browse the folders, or type in **Search presets…**. The search matches names, descriptions and tags, and shows every match in one list.

### Apply it

Click the preset. If it would overwrite settings you already have, Nodaro asks "Apply preset?" first. Click **Apply**. To go back, press Ctrl+Z.

### Fill in the placeholders

Many factory prompts contain placeholders in curly braces, such as `{brand || a modern tech startup}`. Replace them with your own words, or leave them: each placeholder then uses its default. Then run the node.

After you apply a preset, its name shows in the menu. When you change one of its settings, a `*` appears next to the name, so you know that the node no longer matches the preset. You cannot apply a preset while the node is running.

| The delete button on a row | Deletes one of your presets. |
| **Reset to default** | Clears the selected preset and restores the node's default settings, after you confirm. |
| **Manage presets…** | Opens the dialog where you organize your presets. |

## Placeholders and default values

Factory prompts use the same syntax as [prompt variables](https://nodaro.ai/docs/concepts/prompt-variables). A placeholder with a default, such as `{brand || a modern tech startup}`, gives a sensible result even when you run the preset without changes. You have three ways to fill it:

1. **Run it as it is.** Each placeholder uses its default.
2. **Type over it.** Replace the whole placeholder with your own words, such as "a family bakery".
3. **Connect a node with the same name.** A [Text](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/automate/text) node labeled "brand" fills `{brand}` at run time, so upstream nodes or the people who use your app can set it.

## What a preset saves

A preset saves the node's reusable setup: the prompt, the model, the aspect ratio, the resolution, the quality, the seed, the voice, the style, the numeric settings, and the node's [pre and post text](https://nodaro.ai/docs/concepts/prompt-pre-post-text).

A preset never saves:

- **Results.** Generated images, videos and run states are results, not settings.
- **The node's label.** Applying a preset never renames your node.
- **Connections.** Connections belong to one workflow, so a preset leaves them as they are.
- **Generated plans.** The authored plan of a Motion Graphics, Composite, After Effects, 3D Title or Lottie Overlay node is a result. Applying a preset clears it, so an old animation never shows under new settings.

A preset applies its model together with the settings of that model. When you apply a preset made for another model, any setting that does not fit the new model is adjusted automatically.

**Pre and post text.** A preset that ships prompt content, a prompt or pre and post text, replaces the node's pre and post text. A preset that only changes settings leaves your prompt and your pre and post text alone. Keep a preset's reusable wording in its pre and post text, so that the prompt field stays free for your subject.

## Organize your presets

Click **Manage presets…** to open the management dialog for your own presets:

- **New folder** creates a collapsible folder, and **New section** creates an always-open heading at the top level.
- The **Top level** menu on a row moves a preset into a folder or a section.
- **Move up** and **Move down** change the order of folders, sections and presets.
- **Description (optional)** adds a short description, which shows under the name and is searchable.
- **add tag…** adds tags, which the menu's search also matches.
- Rename folders and presets in place. Deleting a folder moves its presets back to the top level, so no preset is ever lost.

In the preset menu, your folders and sections appear in the order you set, under **My Presets**. The **Favorites** band at the top holds both factory presets and yours.

## Factory presets for images

[Generate Image](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/image/generate-image) has the largest factory catalog. Each preset chooses the best model and aspect ratio for its job, for example a model that writes text well for logos and thumbnails.

## Factory presets for video

[Generate Video](https://nodaro.ai/docs/nodes/video/generate-video) presets are built around camera work. Each one chooses a fitting model, an aspect ratio and a duration that the model supports, and adds a tuned negative prompt against warping, flicker and morphing. Social presets use `9:16`.

**Seamless Join (One-Shot)** fixes the small jump between clips that continue each other, such as clips made from a storyboard of start and end frames. It keeps a hard cut, trims 4 frames from the end of each clip and 3 from the start, and crossfades the audio.

**Motion Graphics** presets overwrite the node's prompt and canvas settings, and clear any plan the node already made. **Lottie Overlay** presets write their levers as placeholders, such as `{start time || 1 second}` and `{corner || bottom-right}`. They do not set the node's duration, so the overlay keeps following your video.

## Export file format

An exported file is versioned JSON:

When you import a preset whose name already exists for that node, Nodaro keeps both and adds "(imported)" to the new name. Importing never overwrites a preset.

## From the API

You create and edit presets in the editor. Code and AI assistants can read them:

- **REST:** `GET /v1/node-presets` lists your presets, `GET /v1/node-preset-groups` lists your folders and sections, and `GET /v1/node-presets/factory?nodeType=generate-image` lists the factory catalog of a node. ### What is a preset in Nodaro?

### What is the difference between factory presets and my presets?
